Summer of 2009

"Best Seller" - By Artist J. Seward Johnson, Jr.

Last year Chesterfield Arts presented twenty-one life-size cast bronze figures from artist J. Seward Johnson, Jr. We had these on loan from August through October of 2009 and they were scattered throughout the city, it was like being on an Easter-egg hunt to find each and everyone. This exhibition was a lead up to the unveiling of The Awakening a 70 ft. aluminum giant that had been purchased and donated to the City of Chesterfield.

Many of the sculptures were placed in the park just across the street from where I live. There is a funny story connect with the one pictured here. It seems a women stumbled upon this snoozing gentlemen while walking in the park and thought him dead or ill and called 911, now that puts a whole new meaning into 'life-like'.
