Wrigley In Winter
Beneath the snow
The grass still grows
Albeit waiting patiently
For the feel of cleats
Upon its head
Spring around a corner waits
Muscles groan as they stretch
From a winter’s solstice sleep
In the distance, shhhhh …do you hear?
The call, the call, it comes closer now
PLAY BALL!
~ Annie, January 20, 2011
I really like that Annie. Very nice cadence. You did yourself proud and I am impressed. Your words also give me hope, because let me tell you, I am champing at the bit for baseball. Thankfully, I hear catchers and pitchers is less than a month away. Baseball is coming! (And I love Wrigley Field. It's one of the great parks. Fun to see it in the snow.)
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Keith, your appreciation means a lot to me.
ReplyDeleteCasey is a Mets fan (ugg) so are you a Mets fan as well or favor those pesky Yanks?
I love the Mets and hate the Yankees. This will never change. To me the Mets are a baseball team. I don't know what game the Yankees play but it's certainly not baseball. There is not one iota of joy in anything they do. Baseball's fun. Just ask the Mets.
ReplyDeleteThe Cubs first game with the Mets on May 24 should be fun with you guys.
ReplyDeleteThat's four months away! Now I'm depressed. Oh well, I've got the Jets to keep me warm, at least for another week. But football is nothing next to baseball. There's no game like it.

ReplyDeleteIt will be here before you know it. A few years ago I flew out to Arizona to see the Cubs play in spring training. What fun, I love those small ballparks.
ReplyDeleteI hope the Cubs do well this year. Let's hope for a good year for both our teams. I love spring training. You get to see all the new guys while basking in the notion that the season hasn't even begun yet.
ReplyDeleteYANKEE DOODLE DANDY FOR ME.
ReplyDeleteGRANNY
Pinstripes have a slimming effect, wouldn't you say, Granny?
ReplyDeleteYUP.
ReplyDeleteI used to live half a block from Wrigley Field. It's such a teeny tiny stadium! But they sure know how to make hot dogs in Chicago...and there's some great hot dog places near Wrigley.
ReplyDeleteA half block from Wrigley? wow, that would be my dream. If you think being a liberal is tough, imagine being a liberal AND a CUBS fan living in St. Louis!
