It's time to start using some common sense. Just as we have our right to freedom of speech, we do not have the right to yell "Fire" in a crowded theater.
Our world is filled with unstable people, it is the responsibility of people in public positions of power not to throw about terms such as "locked and loaded, targeted and take them out" when referring to the unseating of political opponents. It is irresponsible and dangerous.
Lives were lost today, including that of a nine year old child. Wake of America - this new wave of 'patriotism' is very dangerous. Materials such as these examples below were used by Sarah Palin. There is no common sense displayed here.

It's truly a nightmare. But what is on the horizon to remedy the situation? Nothing. And that's the real nightmare. I say we must start giving kids a truly excellent education. Then maybe in ten years time we might see a crop of sensible people coming up. But we're actually lowering the quality of education as we speak. This makes me feel hopeless.
ReplyDeleteMerriam-Webster's dictionary defines common sense as: sound and prudent judgment based on a simple perception of the situation or facts. While I don't disagree with your view that we need to raise the quality of education in this country, I think you can lack a formal education and exhibit good common sense; and sadly the reverse is also true; you can be educated and display piss-poor common sense.
ReplyDeleteWE NEED TO GET BACK TO THESE 10 RULES.
ReplyDeleteONE: 'You shall have no other gods before Me.'
TWO: 'You shall not make for yourself a carved image--any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.'
THREE: 'You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain.'
FOUR: 'Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.'
FIVE: 'Honor your father and your mother.'
SIX: 'You shall not murder.'
SEVEN: 'You shall not commit adultery.'
EIGHT: 'You shall not steal.'
NINE: 'You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.'
TEN: 'You shall not covet your neighbor's house; you shall not covet your neighbor's wife, nor his male servant, nor his female servant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbor's.'
The 10 Commandments - Christ's Summation
GRANNY
FORGOT TO SAY, I MAY HAVE BROKE ONE OR TWO WHICH I'M ASHAME TO SAY.BUT I ALWAY TRY TO LIVE THEM.
ReplyDeleteGood rules to live by Granny, but unfortunately the list does not included, 'Thou shall not target your political opponents or view them through the sight of a gun'.
ReplyDeleteI am not a Christian but follow the basic beliefs of Buddhism: (1)to lead a moral life, (2) to be mindful and aware of thoughts and actions, and (3) to develop wisdom and understanding.
Buddha is not a God and never claimed to be. He was a man who taught a path to enlightenment from his own experience. We have images of Buddha, not to worship but to pay respect to and to remind us to strive for peace and love within ourselves.
Much like the 10 commandments, Buddhism has a moral code that consists of five main precepts: (1) not to take the life of anything living, (2) not to take anything not freely given, (3) to abstain from sexual misconduct and sensual overindulgence, (4) to refrain from untrue speech, and (5) to avoid intoxication, ie. losing mindfulness.
I feel I cannot call myself a Buddhist, rather just a spiritual follower of Buddhist beliefs. For me it is all in the journey and not the destination.
GEE THOSE ARE GO RULES TOO
ReplyDeleteWHEN I WAS VERY ILL IN THE HOSPITAL THERE WAS THIS YOUNG MAN STANDING NEXT TO ME WHILE I WAS HAVEING SOME SCARY TESTS. HE WAS A BUDDHIST. SUCH A LOVING MAN. HE HELD MY HAND THROUGHOUT THE TESTS. I'LL NEVER FORGET HIM. HE EVEN PRAY WITH ME. SO NEAT AND VERY LOVING. WE BOTH GLOWED.
GRANNY
PRAYED NOT PRAY WITH ME. LOL YOU KNOW GRANNY I CAN'T TYPE WITHOUT MISTAKES.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing that Annie. It is enlightening in many ways to hear about someone else' belief system. There are many misconceptions by people outside of ANY given belief that is different from our own (whether our beliefs were acquired as a child or an adult)
ReplyDeleteI think that once we all grasp that there is so much to be learned from others and quit hollering over each other long enough to hear, that there will be a much better chance for peace and harmony. I have loved having the opportunity to hear many different ideas and concepts (and Granny...I also love having someone that I share the same ideas with as well!! :)
Hugs to ALL of you..

I think you will find the core belief of most religions to be pretty much the same. Spirituality is so personal and one's beliefs should bring enrichment to one's life. I have explored many religious beliefs since my childhood and have found Buddhism to make the most sense to me and bring me the greatest comfort. Nothing would please me more than to begin anew with this belief carried with me from the start, but that was not my personal destiny, but I go forth now in peace and joy with each day's new discoveries.
ReplyDeleteHugs, are always good Mare. :)
The above is not from Anonymous, it is from me.
