  1. I swear, Annie. We're on the same wavelength. First Fran Liebowitz and now this. I just re-bought "Non, je ne regrette rien" this week. I adore Edith Piaf. I also love "Mon Legionnaire" and "L'Accordioniste". There's never been anyone like her. And isn't it great to sing along with these songs? I do it all the time.

  2. Kind of scary isn't it. I still have Public Speaking on my DVR, maybe I will celebrate the New Year with a re-watch.

I ABSOLUTELY love Edith Piaf, each and everything she does, such a unique and haunting voice.

I know Billy Vera gets some knocks but he owns this song and the words tell such a sad story. There may be better singers but no one does At This Moment the way he does.

  3. The other thing that's great about the Edith Piaf standards is the way the music sounds so old-timey. Like "Movietone" sounds, if that rings a bell for you. The whole era is very much on parade in every song.

She reminds me of Josephine Baker, I guess because they were both such stylish icons of their era. And now we have "celebrities". Aaaargh! What a fall from grace!

  4. So this set me off and I went to iTunes looking for more Edith. They had a 50-song album for $3.99!!! I of course bought it. It's called "50 grande chansons". I have you to thank for this, too. I'm listening now. It's great.

  6. Have either of you seen the movie, La Vie En Rose, with Marion Cotillard? I loved it. Her music is so wistful.

  8. No, Casey, I haven't, but I'll keep an eye out for it. I stayed up until the wee hours of the morning listening to that album last night, and then couldn't sleep because it kept playing in my head. A wonderful night! I'm going to repeat the process today.
