Cinco de Mayo

La Paloma - A Latin tango melody written in 1863 by Sebastian Yradier, like many good melodies, it has been borrowed a lot.
This popular song written almost one hundred and fifty years ago is a true mystery. In Zanzibar it is played at the end of weddings and in Romania at the end of funerals. In Mexico it is a protest song and in Germany it is played as a sailor's lament.

La Paloma was first played in Cuba and today it is one of the most frequently played songs in the world. So no matter how you view it, as a sweet and sensitive love song or a song of protest and love of country, sit back enjoy a margarita or two and celebrate Cinco de Mayo with our friends from south of the border.
