1955 - The Year That Was

"The journey is the reward"

The year was 1955, the month was February. In just four months I would be graduating from high school, I never bothered to stop and look around me or even take notice that a baby boy had just been born that was going to make a tremendous impact upon not only my life but the lives of so many others.

We never know really when greatness comes into this world we inhabit. No bells go off, seas aren’t parted and the sky doesn’t open up with a clap of thunder. But on this particular day, February 24th it was probably a very typical day in California when a very untypical Steve Jobs was born.

So many millions and millions of people use at least one of the products he invented. His list of accomplishments is indeed impressive. But what I am really taken with even more than his product genius are his words. Here are just a few of the words he spoke have resonated within me.
  • “Here's to the crazy ones, the misfits, the rebels, the troublemakers, the round pegs in the square holes... the ones who see things differently — they’re not fond of rules... You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them, but the only thing you can't do is ignore them because they change things... they push the human race forward, and while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius, because the ones who are crazy enough to think that they can change the world, are the ones who do. “
  • “Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life. Don't be trapped by dogma — which is living with the results of other people's thinking. Don't let the noise of other's opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.”
  • “Death is the destination we all share, no one has ever escaped it. And that is as it should be because death is very likely the single best invention of life.”

Rest in peace, Steve Jobs, you’ve left this world a better place.
