The Thin Red Line

Pvt. Witt - The Thin Red Line

Spoken by Pvt. Witt ~

“This great evil. Where did it come from? How’d it steal into the world? What seed, what root did it grow from? Who’s doin’ this? Who’s killin’ us? Robbing us of life and light. Mockin’ us with the sight of what we might’ve known. Does our ruin benefit the earth? Does it help the grass to grow, the sun to shine? Is this darkness in you too? Have you passed through this night?”
                                               - From the screenplay by Terrence Malick (1998)

  1. Feeling a tad dark, are we? Perhaps it's time for an ice cream sundae or tea with friends.

  2. Not at all... I watched this movie the other night and thought this was a very provocative line, perhaps one of the all time great lines from a movie.

  3. That's one of my favorite movies, Annie. So jarringly beautiful and yet awful. Have you ever read the book? I wonder if it's anything like that.

  4. I have not read the book. This film has to be one of the best anti-war movies...as you say 'jarringly beautiful and yet awful'.
