Great strides have been made during the last thirty years against AIDS however the HIV virus continues to evolve and challenge medical scientists. Living with AIDS is now a reality for over 33 million with the disease but the battle is not over. It serves to remember that an estimated 25 million have died from AIDS. The HIV/AIDS pandemic is perhaps one of the biggest challenges of the 21st century.

  1. I was part of the Infection Control Committee at my hospital when AIDS first reared its ugly head. Our whole way of approaching patients changed dramatically. Gloves, face masks, full length-long sleeved disposable gowns...etc etc. We were all terrified of this fairly unknown, fatal disease.
Things have changed (improved) with knowledge, but we still have so far to go.
