Was that your family name? Guess? Interesting. Is this the uncle you've been writing about? It would be nice if Memorial Day was really Memorial Day, and people thought about these acts of bravery. You did, and good for you.
ReplyDeleteYes, this is the uncle I am writing about. I think those families that have lost someone in the military tend to think of Memorial Day in a slightly different light. When I was young for our family it was always a day of cemetery visitation and remembrance.
ReplyDeleteWe did that too Annie..the little country cemetery a few miles from where we lived. We had a picnic on the way or after, then would hunt asparagus. We would walk through the cemetery and hear stories of the ones who were gone that we didn't get to know.
ReplyDeleteTHAT'S WHAT TODAY IS ALL ABOUT. MY SISTER IN LAWS BROTHER NEVER MADE IT HOME. PLANE DOWN AT SEA. MY ONE BROTHER WAS PLUCK OUT OF THE SEA AFTER THEIR SHIP GOT HIT. HE WOULD NEVER TAL ABOUT THE HORROES. DAD ALSO. MY OTHER BROTHER IS DEAF FROM BEING IN THE KOREAN WAR. WON'T TALK ABOUT IT.
